Sometimes we don’t have as much time as we’d like to prepare things. Moving abroad is no exception to this rule. Any number of circumstances can arise to cause us to up sticks and move across the worlds before we’ve had a chance to find a job or a place to live! To relieve some of the fear that this lack of preparation can induce I have put together a short guide on short term accommodation for ex-pats who didn’t have the time to arrange anything more permanent.
Hotels
Hotel is considered by many to be the best short term option for the last minute expat anywhere. Most areas in well-populated countries will have a number of hotels for you to choose from. As an ex-pat I would recommend that you avoid focusing on factors such as the food or the sporting facilities when choosing a hotel as these can easily be enjoyed off the premises. Your main concerns should be cost and a basic level of comfort and cleanliness.
Motels
Motel is another great short term option for the expats who have moved away at the last minute. Motels are more convenient if you are travelling around a lot when you first arrive, as they are located on roadsides in order to make travel easy. Motels tend to be more basic than hotels, but this is no problem if you are only planning to stay short-term, and it helps to save money to put towards something more permanent. You can use merchant services for motels for your ease and comfort. It is a very secure method of paying bills for certain services.
Townhouses
Town House is another great short term option for the last minute expat anywhere. You can search online for the availability of a townhouse. There are numerous terraced, detached and semi-detached townhouses where you can stay temporarily for some days. You can select a townhouse according to your needs and requirements. Some townhouses are furnished and you can get several additional services including food, sweeping and laundry, but you will have to pay extra charges for them. If you are bringing family members with you, you can find a townhouse to rent with the required number of rooms.
Apartments
Some apartments located in high rise buildings would be a good short term option for the last minute expat. If it is located high at 10th or 20th floor, it would cost you less and you can save your money by selecting it. You can decide whether you want a decorated apartment or undecorated one. If you want fully furnished and luxurious apartment on lower floors, it would be more costly.
